Syncle can enhance the SEO ranking of your pages, by automatically adding structured data to the HTML in the form of JSON-LD.

What is it?

A video schema, also known as video structured data or video markup, is a piece of metadata that is added to the HTML of a web page to provide search engines with additional information about a video, or videos. This structured data helps search engines understand the content of the video and can potentially enhance the way video results are displayed in search engine results pages (SERPs).

The video schema added to your pages by Syncle consists of the following information:

  • Name of the video

  • YouTube embed URL

  • Video description

  • Video duration

  • YouTube thumbnail URL

  • Upload date of the video

It is injected in the following format:

<script type="application/ld+json">
{"@context": "https://schema.org/",
"@graph":[
{

"@type": "VideoObject",
"name": "Xiaomi 12S Ultra unboxing",
"embedUrl": "https://www.youtube.com/embed/2PjZAeiU7uM",
"description": "Xiaomi 12S Ultra unboxing",
"duration": "PT00H40M7S",
"thumbnailUrl": "https://i.ytimg.com/vi/2PjZAeiU7uM/default.jpg",
"uploadDate" : "2023-02-27T10:22:41.825+0000"
},
{
"@type": "VideoObject",
"name": " XIAOMI 12S ULTRA review",
"embedUrl": "https://www.youtube.com/embed/407JVKJUV6w",
"description": "A review of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The new phone from Xiaomi.",
"duration": "PT00H30M5S",
"thumbnailUrl": "https://i.ytimg.com/vi/407JVKJUV6w/default.jpg",
"uploadDate" : "2022-08-03T17:01:44.000+0000"
}

]}
</script>

Why?

By providing this structured data to search engines in a standardised format, we make it easier for search engines, like Google, to index and understand the content of the video. This can have several benefits for SEO (Search Engine Optimization):

  1. Enhanced Visibility: Videos with properly implemented schema may appear in video carousels or other specialised video search features, increasing their visibility in search results.

  2. Better Understanding of Content: Search engines use structured data to better understand the context and content of a web page. Video schema helps search engines accurately categorise and serve video content to users searching for related topics.

  3. Improved User Experience: Supplying more structured information to the search crawlers allows users to see additional useful information directly in the search results. It helps them make more informed decisions whether the web-site they are about to visit will contain useful information. This can lead to a better overall user experience.

NOTE: Google now only indexes video to search results when the video is the main content of the page. Videos on PDPs are generally supplementary content and will not be displayed in search results.

How to get videos indexed by Google

Google's indexing frequency can vary based on several factors, and Google doesn't disclose the exact timing of when it crawls and indexes pages. However, it has been suggested that the frequency can range from multiple crawls per day to once every few weeks.

These are just guidelines, and there is no fixed schedule.

Google uses algorithms to determine how often to crawl each site. Factors which can influence the rate in which your site is crawled include the size of the site, the frequency of updates, the importance of the site in terms of incoming links from other reputable websites and the quality of content.

High-quality, relevant content may attract more frequent crawling, as Google aims to provide users with the latest and most valuable information. This is assessed against many different criteria - one of which is structured data, such as Syncle's video schema.

How to request Google to re-index your site (or individual web page)

It’s likely that your site has already been indexed by Google. However, the latest crawl may not be up to date. There are several ways you can request google to crawl your site again. For individual web pages, you can use option 2.

  1. Submit a Sitemap:

    • Log in to your Google Search Console account (https://search.google.com/search-console/).

    • Select the property (website) for which you want to request reindexing.

    • In the left-hand menu, click on "Sitemaps."

    • Submit your sitemap if you haven't already. If you've made updates to your site, submitting a new sitemap can prompt Google to crawl and index your pages.

  2. Request Indexing:

    • If the page is not indexed or you've made significant changes, you can request indexing.

    • In the URL Inspection tool, click on the "Request Indexing" button.

    • Google will then crawl the page and update its index.

While these tools allow you to request reindexing, it doesn't guarantee an immediate update in the search results. Google will prioritize the crawl based on various factors, and it may take some time for the changes to be reflected in the search results. Also, keep in mind that excessive or unnecessary requests for reindexing may not be effective.

If you would like to first check whether Google has indexed the latest version of your pages, you can use the URL inspection tool:

  • In the left-hand menu of Google Search Console, click on "URL Inspection."

  • Enter the URL of the page you want to reindex in the search bar and press "Enter."

  • Google will provide information about the last crawl, indexing status, and any issues it encountered.
